DOJ Weighs In To Halt FTC and Koh’s Questionable Ruling Against Qualcomm

The DoJ has intervened to request a stay in the FTC ruling against Qualcomm, citing national security. This ruling against Qualcomm never made sense, and certainly did not make sense based upon what the FTC presented in its case. I feel strongly that the ruling will be paused to allow a deeper look on the security implications prior to the case being heard for appeal — it will be interesting to keep an eye on what happens next.

5G Rising: Ericsson Validates 5G is Booming Sooner than Later

The June 2019 Ericsson Mobility Report is a key indicator that the ongoing trade and geopolitical disputes, primarily between the U.S. and China, will not hinder worldwide 5G momentum. The report forecasts 1.9 billion 5G subscriptions – up from 1.5 billion forecasted in the November 2018 edition – an increase of almost 27 percent. Here’s why 5G is booming sooner rather than later.

Apple’s 5G Enabled Phones and … Going it Alone in Chips by 2022-23?

I have no doubt that Apple intends to own the entire supply chain and modems and then perhaps RF to follow. I am skeptical that they can execute in the timeline being provided. I would think 2024 or even 2025 is more reasonable, but let’s give them kudos for being bold. As an admitted fan of the Qualcomm modems, I think they could better divert resources elsewhere, but that isn’t Apple’s style.
