With trillions of pieces of data collected, companies need the infrastructure to manage and glean insights from that data without having to stream it to the cloud or some other data storage location where the latency and costs would be prohibitive. Dell Technologies has been at the forefront of the edge computing revolution with a reported 69% of fortune 100 companies already using their existing edge solutions. The announcements made at Dell Tech World will support what businesses will need for the future. Solutions and announcements include:
- Dell EMC VxRail satellite nodes make edge workload management more efficient with new automations and capabilities. With centralized and automated monitoring organizations can eliminate the need for localized technical support.
- Dell Technologies Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge with Litmus is specifically designed to help manufacturers connect devices and applications regardless of location and will help improve decision making and ultimately lower costs.
- Dell EMC Edge Gateway acts as a bridge for edge devices across various IT and OT environments enabling organizations to glean real-time insights.
- Dell EMC Streaming Data Platform makes it easier for GPUs to ingest video at a lower latency and supports real-time analytics on Dell EMC VxRail and PowerEdge systems.
- Dell Latitude Rugged Laptops make work possible from literally anywhere, even the harshest environments while providing high levels of performance and connectivity.
The Future is on the Edge
While edge computing certainly is not new, many organizations are still in the process of evaluating and determining their strategies to fully realize the potential of data created at the edge. The ability to leverage their significant customer footprint and be part of the business and technology evolution at the edge is a clear opportunity that Dell needs to capitalize upon. That’s why I feel the timing and breadth of these offerings are a positive for Dell Tech and its customers.
With these new additions to the edge portfolio, Dell Technologies continues to better meet unique customer needs both now and in the future. Data collection, processing, automation, and storage are all important components to any business, and any edge strategy. This will only getting bigger as 5G, IoT and other devices become more pervasive in the enterprise from the factory floor to the customer. These offerings will also open new doors in verticals like retail and manufacturing, making it possible for organizations now in virtually every industry to thrive.
