In this episode of SMACtalk Live, Daniel and Brian bring you a personalized story about, well, personalization, straight from Mobile World Congress live 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

Mobility is a very hot topic. Just walk the floor of any event, go to the store, look at the driver next to you, or consider how you interact with technology throughout the day. People no longer wait an instant to be connected as their devices allow them to be dialed in and engaged around the clock.

At Mobile World the themes have been hot new devices, Internet of Things, Network Function Virtualization and a whole lot more devices (did we say that)? But one of the things that people aren’t talking about (much), is how mobility is capable of creating more personalized experiences that can improve everything from how we attend events, to how we shop, to how we deal with a glut of content that overwhelms our lives on a daily basis.

Here in Barcelona, there are 85,000+ of us connected, using our devices to navigate the event, connect socially, stay in touch with work and so much more and the events team that put on the show have done some tremendous things with mobile, beacon technology and geo-localization to make events better for all of us.

Brian, for instance, loves to utilize (life-hack) every application that can make an experience a bit better. Often that means a lot of time on his end trying to figure out how to glue multiple apps with no real common integration together to do so. The Mobile World application allowed for him to improve his experience by eliminating the need for him to utilize his paper badge, then by liking certain exhibitors he wanted to see, he would not only get useful updates about that the vendor was showing, but also be notified when he was in proximity of the booth and even receive a 3D map rendering to his phone to improve his experience.

This type of technology can be utilized for so much more though. As we opt into content, engage with companies online or utilize wearables, all of that data can be used to collect information to make our experience better; especially mobile. For instance, we could receive content that is more mobile friendly when we are mobile, or reorganize what notifications we receive when we are away from our offices versus when we are home. Think about it…How long is a new email, new?

Mobile has the power to create a new level of personalization in not only events, but in life. We can better engage our employees and our customers by making sure that we put timely information in front of them on the right device, in the right format based upon what they really need, not just what we want to send them.

Another great example of mobile, data and cloud driving a whole new world of possibility for business.
